Sporty Renaults have been wearing the “RS” logo for a few years now. It has a lot of appeal, but it’s not the same as a “Williams” inscription. In 1993, Renault bet on several horses: the logo referred to its activity as an engine supplier in Formula 1, and at the same time the model served as a homologation model for a rally bomb in Group A and N.
Aesthetically, there are not many changes, but there are plenty of notable ones: gold-plated rims, a 2.0 logo on the side protection strips, a few “Williams” logos and of course a specific “bleu sport” body colour. The changes in the interior are also limited, with blue counters, a “W” on the seats and a numbered plate for the first versions.
Under the bonnet, more changes were made: Renault fitted a two-litre four-cylinder engine under the hood, producing 150bhp at 6,100rpm and 175Nm at 4,500rpm. The gearbox was reinforced to keep this extra cavalry under control, and the axles were given bespoke suspension, a wider front track and sturdy anti-roll bars.
